<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The security of information is one of the most important aspects in communications, which always demands to improve the existing cryptosystems, and design new ones with high security and performance in real-time applications due to enhancing the danger of hacking efforts. Since MDS matrix a are formal models of computing devices, cryptosystems based on them can be efficiently implemented at software and hardware levels. Today, MDS matrices occupy a special place and are important components in designing the linear diffusion layers of many block ciphers and hash functions. Recently, a lot of work has been done on the construction of lightweight MDS matrices, most of which are based on special types of matrices over finite fields. This article provides an analytical overview of the use of MDS matrices for cryptographic algorithms. The use of the MDS matrix for diffusion is considered, as well as their comparison with other algorithms.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>криптография</kwd><kwd>MDS-матрицы</kwd><kwd>алгоритмы шифрования</kwd><kwd>блочные шифры</kwd><kwd>AES</kwd><kwd>SHARK</kwd><kwd>Square</kwd><kwd>Twofish</kwd><kwd>Anubis</kwd><kwd>KHAZAD</kwd><kwd>Manta</kwd><kwd>Hierocrypt</kwd><kwd>Kalyna</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>cryptography</kwd><kwd>MDS matrix</kwd><kwd>encryption algorithms</kwd><kwd>block ciphers</kwd><kwd>AES</kwd><kwd>SHARK</kwd><kwd>Square</kwd><kwd>Twofish</kwd><kwd>Anubis</kwd><kwd>KHAZAD</kwd><kwd>Manta</kwd><kwd>Hierocrypt</kwd><kwd>Kalyna</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">B.
